Application Configurator Setup for Platform

This topic leads you through the process of viewing and managing Platform users in Application Configurator.

  1. Enter your Application Configurator administrator details and click OK.
  2. The Platform portal displays in a new browser window. Enter your email address and click Continue.
  3. Authenticate with your identity and access provider. If you are not using Federated Single Sign On, it prompts you to enter your password. If you are using Federated Single Sign On, it directs you to your organization’s sign in page.
  4. After successful authentication, a confirmation page displays.
  5. You can now view all the Platform users in Application Configurator.

Manage Users

In the User Management tab of Application Configurator, you can view all the users with access to Platform and also perform the following actions:

  • Manage - Opens a browser window and loads the User Management page in the Platform portal. You can create new users from this page.
  • Refresh - Obtains the latest user changes from Platform, so that it reflects in your local environment.

User properties

Application Configurator disables the First Name, Last Name, and Email Address fields as these properties now come directly from Platform.

The application requires you to enter a user's Windows user name in the Windows User Name field, click OK to save the information.

Enable API Login Key for Profile Scheduler

Platform users must log in and authenticate on the platform every 30 days. This requirement also applies to the Profile Scheduler. If you use the Profile Scheduler and do not routinely authenticate every 30 days, your scheduled jobs will fail.

The purpose of this feature is to allow for an API login key to be used, enabling the Profile Scheduler to operate unaffected by the 30-day platform authentication requirement.

Benefits

  • You can now distribute reports through the Profile Scheduler without being blocked by the authentication request.

  • This ensures you receive reports on time and that your distribution jobs do not fail.

Prerequisites

  • This applies only to Spreadsheet Server customers on the Platform. It is not an issue for users not on the Platform version.

  • You must upgrade to 25.1+ to take advantage of this feature.

  • The Platform API key is valid for 6 months. If you do not schedule and send a Distribution Manager job within 6 months, you will need to authenticate and generate a new key.

  • The API key is only applicable to Distribution Manager types and does not support any other types.

Steps to Generate and Use the API Login Key

  1. Launch the Application Configurator.

  2. If you have not logged in to the Platform within the last 30 days, it will prompt you to log in.

  3. Go to File > Settings.

  4. Notice the new Platform API Key section.

  5. Click Generate. The key is generated.

  6. Click Ok and save the changes. Push to the network if applicable.

Once done, this applies to all users with the DM add-on license, so you do not need to authenticate on the platform to schedule and distribute reports.

  7. From the Settings screen, you can also click on Manage. This will take you to Platform where you can revoke the key.
